I don't know about the head studs. I saw heavy cylinder scoring in #3. The spark plug in #3 was oil fouled with heavy deposits. The compression was 135#. I cleaned the plug and #3 came back on line, but did not always fire at idle speed. It smoked heavily after idling for a minute or two. I gave the previous owner (as of last week) a rough estimate on a top end rebuild. She said the engine had "well over 100k miles" and that the odometer had been broken for many years.
