Not really a fix but quick stupid thinking:
Many, Many years ago, 19 years old and 914 with carbs. Throttle cable broke 3-4 miles from home on bridge. Popped roof, popped engine lid..told girlfriend in skirt to lean over the back and be my throttle. Would yell 'on' for throttle and 'off' when shifting. Got a lot of smiles and waves from oncoming traffic.
Stupid but got home...cost me a dinner
