This is a complete engine with injection, computer, intake, fan, cooling tin, etc. It's out of a 1971 914. It's a builder engine, it turns over by hand, and the cylinder bores look basically OK.
I paid $500 for this engine, originally planned to build it for my 912e, but decided to go a different route (going the swap route).
This would make a great engine for a 914 or beetle. According to Jake Raby, the 1.7 has a stronger case than the later engines and makes the most suitable starting point.
