Apple to Apple is usually great because everything apple will try to use "iMessage" which goes via IP (data-Internet) vs cell (SMS).
When my wife sends group texts to family with pics of the grandkid or whatever, it's often an issue because there's a few folks that don't use iphones. Actually, there were more, but we are now down to just 1. We keep whittling away at the non-Apple folks.
I used to be an Android fan, but I've been converted. These days Apple vs Android is like Canon vs Nikon and Camaro vs Mustang. It's always a "thing" because they are generally so well matched, but when you take into consideration the interoperability of all of the Apple universe, that's the new "feature" that Apple has that causes it to win out over Android.
And you can't even argue "Apple steals my info" because Android is Google who also steals your info. Either way you're screwed unless you're Paul and you're sporting a flip phone in your Bullit center console.
