I road from Managua, Nicaragua, down the pacific side through Costa Rica to the Panama canal, then back up the Caribbean side back to Managua. We never had one problem and never felt unsafe. We met several other riders from Canada and Europe and had a blast. Every stop we made we were teated with kindness and hospitality.

I tend to agree with Motion. You're far more likely to be a victim of violent crime in the U.S. Central Americans will steal your backpack in a second, but they won't stick a gun in your face and ask for your wallet.
