Definitely. I knew a man who did just that. To him, the choice was simple. Give all he'd worked for to the medical community and endure a lot of pain in exchange for a perhaps 1% chance of surviving, or leave a legacy for those he loved.
In a case like that, I would think anybody would consider checking out.
