Wow. I'm the same age as you, but my problem is that I want to do too many additional things, and mourn that there's not enough lifetime left to do them all. I just sold a business and would like to buy another, but can't justify taking the risk at my age. Plus the decline in my physicality caused by years of pounding and abuse in a variety of violent endeavors rules out other things I'd like to do, like blade-smithing or endurance racing, as two examples.

I know him in reverse: I went everywhere and did everything when I was young: Sports, kayaking, surfing, rafting guide, Navy pilot; travel and adventure world wide with purpose and whimsy.

Married late, 36, and found the next groove, the passion. Now, at 61, kids grown and the best people I know, I find business and growing my company the next groove, the passion.
If you're starting up or at a relatively early stage of a company at age 61, Paul, I salute you. That takes guts that I don't have.

AB was a wonderful, creative guy who happened to have depression. It's an insidious disease that robs one of one's own free will, and, it seems, is common in creative people. Like Speeder said, it's not that surprising.

The deaths of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain, and for that matter Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington, and Robin Williams, all hugely successful and wealthy, show just how small a role $$ and material success plays in happiness.
