We did not have a/c when I was growing up. Dad worked in a machine shop all day and said the guys that had a/c at home were miserable all day. We got a/c at home after they put in swamp coolers in the machine shop.

Remember more than one sleepless night laying in a pool of sweat with a fan blowing on me.
Had a similar experience in college one night, only no fans. It was hot and the eectricity was out all over the small college town.
