You might try fiddling ever so slightly with the shift coupler. Mark everything with a paint pen before you start so you can get it back if you get lost.
The coupler bushings were the first thing I did on my car, and it took me no joke 4 hours to make 1st, 5th, and reverse lockout all play nice together.
