I'm doing this in conjunction with an exhaust backdate on my 82 SC now. It's quite easy thanks to this thread and others. I ordered everything needed from Pelican except for the small engine tin with the hole for the drivers side, I found that used for $15.
Just go for it, its cheap, easy, only requires a few tools and is totally reversible. The engine bay looks much better and you lose a couple pounds. What's not to like?
