I watched that mythbusters...they used a more modern Ford with 5 link rear suspension and coils...not the leaf spring suspension of the car in the movie.
So, I kinda call mythbusters busted on this one. Hold on, I'll see if I can find a link..
(edit) Found it! Also, read the comments made on Youtube...they made an apples-oranges comparison. Besides, don't all movies involve a "willing suspension of disbelief"? Or do you believe the stunts you see are all real?
