Dad asked me what he should do when his was diagnosed in his 80's. Surgery (a patch job) at that age is very risky, of course, with it being quite possible he'd die on the table.
I suggested he do nothing, which is what he did.
Then a year or so later, he was standing in front of the fridge which didn't have any more beer in it (!) and he just fell over. He was dead before he hit the ground on August 7, 2007.
Ruptured AAA.
