I owned a waterfront cedar sided house for three years prior to moving to the farm. I mention waterfront because that environment was really hard on the cedar and I had to do yearly upkeep.
Complete love hate relationship: Loved the look, hated the maintenance. I used the techniques in the video below, although with a hose attachment for applying cleaners, etc. and a low pressure sprayer.
I used a hand held pump sprayer like the one below to apply the stain.
