difference between 92 325i engine and 93 325i engine

what are the major differences between the 1992 325i motor and the later 325i motors. Such as relaibilty, performance. The reason I am asking is because I have a chance to get a good deal on a 1992 325i. Should I skip that year and look for a later model. I know the oil capacity is only 5qts with the 92 motor, and the newer motors the capacity is around 8. Any info would be helpful. Thanks Joe.

if they are both E-36 body's then there is no difference. if the 92 is a E-30 then the differences are very few..basically the same engine just with a few mods here and there..i belive they are both 6 quart systems..iv never had the but 8 quarts in my engine lol

incorrect.

The E30 6 cylinder motors are totally different than the E36 ones. Also I beleive the main difference is that the early E36 cars and a single VANOS control system whereas the later cars had a dual VANOS system.

However there really shouldnt be any problem with buying an early car as long as it is maintained and the price is good.

Early E36 325 up to 9/92 don't have VANOS at all.
From 9/92 they have single Vanos (intake side).
No Vanos engines have havier pistons, rods, dual spring valves.

I knew it had to have something to do with VANOS. Thanks for clearing that up...
