keyless entry remote

My e36 was originally equipped with a keyless remote entry, but it was lost a while ago. I may buy a used one via ebay, how difficult are they to program, and is it a DIY task? Are instructions available on any of the bmw forums?

Send a message via AIM to mzznlink
I picked up one a few months ago on Ebay. Programing was easy. Let me know where to email the .pdf file to.

A deeply noob question.....

Just bought a sweet 96 325 for my son. No owners manual, no remote fob. What am I looking for to confirm that the car has the factory remote entry fitted?? I've searched the universe looking for an E36 option decoder, but no luck.

The keyless entry system plugs into harness behind the glovebox.

Here are instructions on the installation of an aftermarket sytem. It will show you where to find the module and plug:

I had/have a BAAAAAD experience with Stellar/Autoloc and I would NEVER purchase ANYTHING from them.

Crap that looks like a lotta work just so you don't have to turn a key. No wonder that gave you the 'willies' Jeron.

It's just like a regular alarm install but the alarm itself simply plugs into the car instead of cut and soldering in.

My problem is the Stellar alarm false's constantly and I've sent it back twice but they claim there is nothing wrong with it. I had to remove the alarm and they wont take it back.

Nice link, Jeron.

Many thanks! I ordered a Bentley as soon as we got the car, so that will be my main read for a while.

There's a project on this in my new book http://www.101projects.com .

It's pretty easy for both types of alarms, but you have to get the timing and procedure just right, otherwise, it can be frustrating.
