On a one-off hot rod? There’s no point in doing that. You’re talking about “marking the market”, which only helps your position if you’re holding a lot of others just like it. As a trader I used to do that with my options positions overnight. A one-off custom hot rod isn’t something you’d do that with, though, but I agree with you that the price paid for this is so fantastically silly it almost seems fishy. It sure seems to be consistent with all of the air cooled P cars, though, as there’s been some stupid silly money paid recently for a 996 turbo S cab and an ‘89 930 coupe. Both so far above the market that they’re a kin to buying a new boat, as in worth substantially less by the time they get ‘em home.
