Replacement Fuel Tank - '83 911

Hi guys, it looks like the previous owner of my car may have done a bit of off-roading, and unfortunately there's a large gouge near the drain plug on my tank that appears a bit damp, and from time to time I'll get a whiff of fuel in the passenger compartment.

After reading the forum and looking at replacements, it looks like Dansk and TMP/Tasker both make aftermarket tanks. I understand the Dansk isn't capable of accepting the factory tank strainer, and using it usually necessitates modifications to allow the use of a pre-pump filter.

It also looks like the Tasker/TMP tank may have some quality issues insofar as welds and galvanizing are concerned, but that it does allow for the use of the factory strainer.

With all that being said, it looks like a new factory Porsche tank is about twice the cost of an aftermarket tank. While it's not necessarily a small sum, it sounds like it may be worth spending the extra few hundred to use the Porsche tank, but I've also read several threads related to other Porsche parts where the modern equivalent that has superseded past parts isn't necessarily the same as what was installed at the factory.

With three small children and limited time to do this job, I'm leaning heavily towards the Porsche tank. Has anyone used the factory Porsche replacement tank? Any thoughts/recommendations/regrets?

Thanks in advance!
