Hi Chris,
I saw the condition the car was in when you picked it up, and your giving it a new life, so do it your way...
I took a cheap, already modified 77 road car and gradually turned it into a track day car. Drove it for years with no heating, no rubber in the suspension and with a race seat and enjoyed it. It handled like a go cart. Probably too far for most but I enjoyed it, so each to their own.
And while it had lexan, rear roll cage etc, i did however stop short of irreversible modifications. Years later, that car when i sold it was returned to a life as a street hot rod and is now funding my new (old) 77 build.
I get what people are saying about noise and comfort. I had no radio and do admit on longer trips I'd sometimes use headphones for music and some noise cancelling. I also admit it wasnt a daily driver, and i did drive it less once it was more track focused, but when i did i enjoyed it.
At the end of the day it was an air cooled Porsche so when I arrived wherever I was going, it was with the unmistakable aircooled 911 fragrance of engine oil...
