Some crappy open-diff fwd car with snow/ice tires will crush a subaru or 4wd suv with bad tires.
Buy the car you want to drive all the time, and buy a second set of wheels with top-rated dedicated winter tires not all-seasons. Blizzak variants, dunlop wintersport, general altimax arctic, whatever.
