You know Steve, we just got back from there yesterday. Rented an econobox at the airport and drove around the Olympic Peninsula, Spent a day in downtown Seattle (never again even if hell freezes over), and over to the Mt. Rainier area. The roads were outdated, not in too good of repair, and crowded with bumper to bumper traffic. I'm talking about everywhere. The only place I didn't have heavy traffic was on 101 coming from Lake Quinault to Port Angeles from almost 9PM to 11PM. Generally everybody drives 45 to 60 mph. The roads to & from Crystal Mountain weren't too bad, but most routes go through small towns with small town traffic. I'd forgotten the roads were corridors cut through heavy forests preventing you from seeing anything (haven't been up there since 1967). My impression is your experience in a nice car will be more comfortable while sitting in traffic. We were bumper to bumper, stop & go from Port Angeles to the Bremerton area. Ugh! YMMV, but that was our experience.
