Signing up for any free email like google, yahoo, etc. in the agreement you are agreeing to let them read all your email incoming and outgoing.
First started email hosting in 1990 because was tired of email addresses changing because ISPs kept going out of business or changing names. Now I host for privacy, and no advertising. The only thing that scans my email is anti-virus scanners.
Over the years a number of friends, acquaintances, and small businesses that heard about my email service use it. Basically only charge what it takes to keep the servers, software, and internet connection up-to-date, $5.95 per month. That includes anti-virus/anti-spam, email/contacts/calendar/notes, a desktop client, webmail, active sync for phones, and a drop box type ftp service that lets you drop ship large files and host pics for posting.
All that being said...
Any time you use any search engine, google, yahoo, bing, whatever, you searches are being recorded. tracked, and associated with your browser, email account or not.
And if you use your browser to log into anything important like your bank. Restart your browser to log in then LOG OUT AND SHUT DOWN YOUR BROWSER before going to any other web sites!
