I changed the transmission to a 2004R about a decade ago. It likely has 150K on it. The rear end final drive gear was changed to a 3:08 from the 2:41 is had stock after the transmission swap. It was just too tall. I put the fuel injection on it about 15 years ago. Getting rid of the Rochester computer controlled carburetor was the smartest upgrade I did to it. Fuel injection is just so much better.

The 350 engine was only $1,700 delivered to my door. That is a brand new, not rebuilt, but new engine from GM that bolted in place. I can't even have the heads machined and rebuilt for the $1,700. I changed it over a long weekend for Thanksgiving and even had time to spend with family for Thanksgiving.

I have a little book that has everything I did to it listed. I can look it up easily.
Tell me more about the fuel injection you installed. Brand, pros & cons of that system, change in fuel economy, etc. I’m thinking of ditching my Mazda pickup and getting an early model El Camino. Assuming of course that my wife doesn’t give me the stink eye for buying another old car. Thanks Glen.
