The light we see doesn't tell us what didn't make it.
For example, a film captures moments of light in space when it was exposed.
That film is reproduced and we look at a "picture".
Providing the resolution of copies matches the original picture we would not be able to tell a picture of a picture of a plant from a picture of a plant.
