I love my Marlin '94 Cowboy in .45 Colt. One of my favorite plinkers. I've fitted it with a Williams WGRS peep on the rear and an XS Sight Systems post on the front.
Now that I've kind of broken the ice with a couple of new Miroku Winchesters (Models 71 and 1886), I think my next rifle is going to have to be one of their new 1892's. I'm thinking .38 Special / .357 Magnum. These rifles are amazingly well made and finished. I dare say better than the originals.
Any pistol caliber carbine or short rifle is just a hoot. Take your pick - semi auto, lever gun, and even bolt actions (from Ruger). You just can't go wrong for good clean fun at the gravel pit. Cheap to feed, no recoil, and accurate enough for tin cans at gravel pit ranges. Every growing boy should have one... or two...
