I believe there are many elite level skilled drivers that never made it to Indy/F1/NHRA/IMSA... because they couldn't overcome the fear factor.
To borrow an old expression, there are two types of motorcycle riders:
-the ones that have gone down
-the ones that haven't gone down YET.
The same holds true for pro drivers. Broken backs, major surgeries, but they come back.
