Time for another hike!
Last weekend brought a change in weather, some rain and onshore marine breeze that helped clean out some wildfire smoke. Tuesday seemed perfect for wandering up the side of a volcano... South side of Mt. Baker accessed at Schribers meadows. An added bonus this time of year is blue and huckleberries, unbelievable crops at 3-4k' and so good!!
Really rather rocky trail
USFS puts in a temporary bridge every year to keep yer boots dry crossing turbulent and milky river running down a huge moraine right off a glacier
Views start opening up after 3 miles and 2k' gain
Park Butte fire lookout in the distance- you can spend the night there if you get to it early enough.
My very cute hiking partner and blueberry picker
Always best to park your butte lo, park it high and you can fall off
Mt. Baker has set records for snowfall in the contiguous US- over 96' a few years back. A little research surprised me, the top 1300' of Mt. Baker is all ice sitting in the crater, I always thought the top of the mountain was well, mountain.
