I have been down to the police station a few times. Always as a guest and not under arrest. They used to have their own photolab for the crime-scene photos. A local OKCPD officer was killed out at the airport and the crime scene photographer knew me real well. In fact, he shot my wedding.

Anyway he wanted to re-chem all the chemical tanks for the film processor. Normally that is just an initial processor install and you just replenish the chemicals as they are used. Their processor was way balance and they were getting really bad results. So dump all the tanks and start over. Most of it is easy. Except for the called "bleach" and it is nothing like any bleach you know. It bleaches the silver halide after as a step in the process. Anyway, the chemicals Kodak sells are designed to be used as replenish, not startup so one has to add a "starter" to make it the proper strength to process film.

The starter for bleach is bad bad stinky pookie. When I was setting up the processor at our office I had everything set up, I hyperventilated, held my breath, and opened the bottle, measured the right dose, and put it down, and ran out of there. It stunk up the entire building for the night. It still reeked in the morning.

At the police station I told the cop to go get his best gas mask, and he was going to get to add the starter. I told him I would wait in the hall and told him to turn on any exhaust fans. He said even with the gas mask, it was horrible.

He stunk up the police department, and that is hard to do.
