I wasn't involved in that kind of sports, so I don't know how they usually work, but I was taught that sometimes you have to sacrifice. The kid needs to go play in his game instead of going to the other game. He's a part of a team, and there's a game. I would assume if he busted his butt, that he must want this. At his age, it's easy to get distracted and not understand responsibility, so that's when the parent should be stepping in to teach him.

Besides, it sounds like the kid probably doesn't need to be hanging out with the other guys anyway. Don't need a young kid hanging out with a bunch of drunks.
