My second car was a 71 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus. Pretty much a hot rod. It had a 383 with 2 2bbl carbs, some kind of fancy intake, dual exhausts, that slap stick transmission, and completely adjustable suspension. I didn't find out about the adjustable suspension until it was long gone. The suspension was to adjust for the track, hence the Sebring Plus name.
When I had the car the suspension was set up for drag racing. You could floor it from a stop and instead of spinning the tires the rear would lower, loading up the suspension, then it would start rising and just go. And that was with the stock tires. That wasn't because it didn't have power either. On several occasions flooring it from a stop it broke the motor mounts. That was with the biggest mounts available and chained down as well.
The local garage I took it to was 2 brothers. Their last name was Sebring as was their garage, Sebring Automotive. They were into street racing Mopars. They really liked my car both because it was quick and because of their name and the name on the car. They offered to buy and/or trade for it several times.
One time they offered to trade me for a car they completely rebuilt. It had been completely stripped down and repainted. It was all finished except for the upholstery. It was a small two seater. Iit looked great, but there were a couple of things that stopped me. First was the interior was completely bare. Second was the cams made the motor sound like something was wrong to me. Thought it was some kind of VW kit car. Turned out is was an actual Ford GT40. At that time I didn't know what a GT40 was or even looked like. Probably why I thought it was a VW kit car. I was 20. can't imagine what insurance would have cost.
