Pacific Porsche in Torrance. Lots of nice 996s all over the place (I still dont like the headlights)... even in the service bay. Not a single 3.2L Carerra around (other than mine, which looked great sitting in the parking lot contrasted by these modern machines).
I wanted to buy some Guards Red touch up paint and see if they had something that I could spray on my Cab Top to protect it...but the parts dept. was closed.
The showroom was littered with 996s and not a single Boxter in sight. I checked out a sweet red $92,000 Carrerra Cab (my car's great grandson).
First thing I noticed was how cheap the door handles are. Seems as if they are using the same cheap Acura-style door handles...the type that flip up loosely and feel as if the are going to break.
The rest of the car though, was very solid. I was impressed by the attention to detail in the interior, quality of leather etc. I also noticed that there is much more room in the +2 rear seats...than there is on my Carerra.
The 996 has aparently become a family car...of sorts.
I slid behind the wheel, but noticed that it was very tight fit between my thighs and the steering wheel. Im sure there was a tilt adjustment somewhere...
I should have asked to take it out for a test drive, ala Al Pacino in "Scent of a Woman"...but I didnt have $2000 on me and no sales person approached me anyway. Maybe I wasnt dressed well enough. I did however, overhear a conversation between a European salesperson talking financial terms with a perspective customer. Damn!
Are these cars worth $92K? Maybe...if I had $92K to spend.
For now however, Im perfectly happy behind the wheel of my 86 Carerra.
