Yes its tough finding one in good condition these days. The good news is that you can still find a fairly decent running one for $4,000.
Working on them is straight forward and if you're resourceful and network you can still find parts. I have a good friend who works for Mazda and we spend time combing through part numbers and determining what parts are still available and what parts might work off a slightly later model.
These cars are very rewarding to drive and own.
