He didn't know really, just knew there was a chance, so called the ball to avoid penalty. 10 ball is a call shot game...of course, as a courtesy, they don't really call the obvious ones in the interest of keeping the game moving. Still, Shane is an absolutely amazing player to watch. I doubt anybody can break or control the cue ball as well.
