On my 1986 El Camino the rear end axles bearings were shot. I ended up with two new axles, after a set of axle bearing savers failed. It was nothing as expensive as 2 grand. But the El Camino is a car chassis and not a truck. That was after a couple of hundred thousand miles. I have 362,000 on it now.
