This is what a custom suspension, hung on a shortened Mercury chassis, under a 1946 Ford. Apparently, back in the 1950's, it was very unusual to paint the chassis and plate everything else with chrome, cadmium, nickel, or whatever you decide would look the most badass when you go win best coupe in the Oakland Roadster show in 1955, or whenever it won.
