Short trips or not driven often can cause that. I don't feel it needs to have the oil changed twice but I would definitely change it more frequently whether or not it has accrued many miles.
Funny anecdote: I misspelled "definitely" and the choice in spell checker below the correct spelling was "effeminately".
Somehow I don't think that effeminately changing your oil would do much good.
