For anybody interested in WWI history, my former wife wrote a short documentary type book of her father and a friend's experiences during the war. They were not involved in the fighting, but were in engineering units building railroad access to the front. A good portion of the first third is devoted to reprinted texts of letters sent to one of the subject's fiancée, which give a feel for how things were at that time. It goes on to follow up on the characters lives after the war, and at the end revisits locations where they lived and worked during the war as well as contacting relatives. It's sort of a tribute to her father, has lots of old pictures and only about 190 pages long & available on Amazon for $15 in paperback. Title: Dad and Dunk in the Great War. Author: Jenifer Burckett-Picker.
