Way back in the stone ages of the 1970s I bought my first set of Michelin XWX tires that was THE hot tire for performance. The only Michelin dealer in Montgomery. AL was a truck dealership. I had to order them in, and then have them install them. The mechanic saw all the adjustments on the ride height and tracks with and just had to monkey with them. The handed me the keys to a 914 that had the worst possible alignment possible on the planet. One rear tire was jacked up high and the other was slammed. I refused it on the spot, and made them hire a flat bed tow truck to take it to the dealer to fix the alignment and ride height. I learned that lesson. DO NOT let a truck tire shop align a sports car.
I was autocrossing a LOT back then. I wore out that set of XWXs in one summer. They were down to the cord in the rear. They were all astonished when I came back so soon for another set. I was clear, do NOT try to align it.
I watched them align a 18 wheel semi. They strapped chains to it, and applied huge force to bed things into place. I just kept backing up further away. Then they aired up one of those huge tire and I went into the office on the far side of the shop. It was terrifying, and they acted like it was normal.
