Note ad dated 1963... if you get caught doing that today (very unlikely) you probably get hit with a big fine.
Most auto parts stores will let you dump motor oil for free.
Having said that my first house had a pit, the driveway ran all the way into the backyard and there was a pit about two feet wide and three feet deep with a gravel bottom. I never used it.
