Commonly called a safari roof or a tropical roof.
You could also lay light coloured shade cloth directly on as there wouldn't be much heat transfer from the plastic cloth to the roof. Would save you making a frame.
Another way is to put a sprinkler on the roof if the really hot days are infrequent or you're not worried about your water bill.
