Have you been to San Francisco recently?
I go to Portland and Seattle a couple times a year. They don't even compare. Two months ago my wife and I walked from The Marker (the old Hotel Monaco) to Le Colonial (Super cool French Vietnamese Restaurant). Maybe three blocks. During our walk I was almost pee'd on once, a very smelly homeless guy grabbed my wife's arm asking for money and I had to push him away hard, and we saw a guy shooting heroin up agains an office building right on Post St. On every corner is some guy screaming obscenities at God, the devil, or some demons he's seeing. From a concentration standpoint, there's nothing like it anywhere else in the US.
