I think Antony Bourdain visited and agreed with all of the above... However IIRC he also said it was like the wild, wild, west... which may be true of most central/south America countries. That is what would concern me about moving down south, if you need any help/protection you
might not get much help from the police/government.
Also note the "laid back" lifestyle... I have several friends have moved to Hawaii (a dream of mine) but only to return in a few years because they couldn't handle "Hawaiian time".
