Hotel was by far the biggest expense after tickets. Montreal is a wonderful city and it appeared that F1 weekend is their start of Summer so everyone is out and about even if they're not going to F1. And everyone is super friendly.
Perhaps AirBNB is a better way to go but start looking now which may still be too late.
