logic has anything to do with it. Many if not most of these drivers have been competing since age 5 first in karts, then onward. F1 drivers as well as Indy car drivers, and I'm sure a lot of others still drive karts in the off season. I don't know if it was Michael Shumacher that once said that a kart was the closest thing to Formula cars, but that statement has been made.
The reason drivers are allowed to compete is because they can show that they can and qualify within a percentage of the pole.
The way the accident was provisionally determined to happen was a errant yellow light that all drivers could not see. You might say the same about the driver in front that braked.
