Go with the O2 sensor. It's fairly inexpensive and makes an immediate difference if the one that's on the car is bad. It's just a ***** to get off though, torch it !!!
Have you adjusted the allen screw on the AFM, if you richened up the idle mixture (turn clockwise) this may give better response off the line but you milage in stop and go driving will take a hit.
