I never had a beeper, never wanted one. One of my good friends used to host some web pages from his house in the 1980s. His computers were set up to alert him if there was an issue. He wanted to go on vacation with his wife and kids. He asked me to carry his pager and go to his house to restart a computer if there was a problem. That dang thing went off constantly for his regular job, even after he had told everyone he was out of town, and on vacation. He said to ignore them all, only the ones from his home mattered. I was real glad to get rid of that thing.
I waited to get a cell phone until AT&T ran a special for a phone for $25 per month, and a free phone. Then I resisted getting a smart phone, I saw no reason to text or spend money on a data plan. Then I took a sip of the Kool-Aid, I was hooked. Now it is my brains, and I can't imagine living without it.
