Have you checked Crutchfield? They have pretty good data on most cars. The Bose are 2 ohm I believe but the non-Bose should be 4 ohm. I’ve only ever messed with Bose equipped cars but they have a weird little enclosure in the door panel, so it’s just just a speaker screwed into a panel like some cars.

I’m not for sure on your 987, but on the 986 the base audio was dash speakers with door pockets, and the hifi audio package added door speakers. Almost every 986 had this package but you do occasionally find one with just door pockets in place of speakers.

EDIT: did a little Google to refresh myself, there’s a mid screwed to the door panel and a woofer on the door itself. Lots of info out there on upgrades.
