Making another dolly for a tub and the plastic lens on the outside of my helmet was in rough shape. That and don't use acetone to clean it. Had some 1/8" plate glass on hand so I cut a small pane out of it and and into the helmet. While you have to be a little more careful with the helmet, glass makes a huge difference in seeing over even brand new plastic. It was striking how much better I could see. Definitely worth the 10 minutes it took to make the glass lens.
