My business partner came over this morning to use my lift to change the starter on his 2008 Miata. After looking for the starter for 45 minutes we finally found it. It looks like a near impossible task. They folks on line say it takes hours to get the top bolt loose.
He threw in the towel. Called a local repair shop and he will "let" them do it for a reasonable $500 and that includes a starter. He just took back the one he had bought.
On my 911 I have to reach around the transmission and hug the transmission and remove the bolts by feel. No big deal to do. The El Camino starter is right in view. It is giant and weighs about 150 pounds. Well, not really, but it feels that way holding it up in place trying to get the first bolt to start tightening up. I can't imagine trying to do the Macan starter. I doubt that will be an issue.
