Total dog lover here but in my early 20’s I once had an unleashed staffordshire type dog fly across his lawn and hurl himself at me as I walked up to ring a doorbell. At no time was his intention unclear. When it left the ground at me my front kick landed so squarely under it’s chin that the dog spun in the air, cried out in the high pitch dogs can do, and immediately retreated very clumsily back into his outside doghouse across the lawn. I felt terrible; I probably broke his jaw- I can’t see how I didn’t- and I got the hell out of there without ever making it to the doorbell and/or acknowledging to the owner what I had done (even if it was in self defense). Not one of my prouder recollections actually. In my 50 years I can’t think of another dog before or since that I didn’t like, or that didn’t like me. But that one was different.
