I can't say anything about the 2018 or 2019 4Runner other than I am thinking of buying one. Too bad they don't offer the manual transmission.
I currently have a 1997 4Runner SR5 with the manual transmission and have 363,000 miles on it. Mostly highway miles. It has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. The drivetrain has been flawless and I always performed the scheduled maintenance. No rust either because I had Zeibart do their thing back when it was new.
So, if you like the 4Runner, get it. It will last if you keep the fluids clean and perform the scheduled maintenance.
